Citibank Global Wallet is a new feature linked to your Citi Debit Card which allows you to make purchases abroad in-store/online, and withdraw cash from overseas ATMs without incurring foreign exchange and card commission fees. You can link accounts in up to 20 currencies to this new feature and just need to make sure you hold sufficient balances in the currency you’re spending in, in order to avoid fees.
For example, with Citibank Global Wallet turned on, if you are travelling to Switzerland and have a Swiss Franc (CHF) account with us, any CHF purchase will be automatically debited from your CHF account without foreign exchange or card commission fees.

If you are an existing bank account holder, you can turn on Citibank Global Wallet by visiting Citi Mobile® UK App. Once it is turned on, your Citibank Global Wallet will be automatically linked to your currency accounts.

Citibank Global Wallet will help you save on foreign exchange and card commission fees, and is beneficial when you are:

  • Travelling overseas for holidays, family visits or work
  • Making online purchases from international websites
  • Transferring foreign currencies for payments or investments
  • Withdrawing money from ATMs abroad

For example, if you are making a 100 USD retail transaction online, it will be debited directly from your Citibank USD account. If you had bought USD in advance at your preferred rate of 0.82 USD/GBP, your transaction would be locked down at this specific rate.

For International Personal Bank clients:

Rates used and displayed above are indicative and used purely for illustration purposes. No representation is made of actual rates charged during the transaction.

In addition to Pound Sterling (GBP), you can transact in:

You can open and link any Citibank Cash Accounts through your Citibank Global Wallet. For example, you can open and link a CHF Cash Account and a JPY Cash Account to your Citibank Global Wallet.

However, you can only link 1 account of the same currency to your wallet. For example, if you have two USD Cash Accounts, you are only able to link one of the two accounts to your wallet. You will be able to select the account you wish to link through your Citi Mobile® UK App.

Yes, once you have turned on Citibank Global Wallet, your point-of-sale/online purchases and overseas ATM withdrawals will be automatically debited from your foreign currency account as long as there is sufficient balance.

No, Citibank Global Wallet does not require any minimum deposit for your accounts to be linked to your Citibank Debit Card. Simply turn it on using Citi Mobile® UK App to get started.

There are no foreign exchange or card commission fees with Citibank Global Wallet feature for overseas in-store/online purchases and ATM withdrawals, as long as you hold sufficient balances in the currency you’re spending in. You will also not incur transaction fees when you transfer funds to another Citibank account.

Please note that even after you have linked your Citibank Debit Card to your Citibank Global Wallet, you may still be given an option for currency conversion during overseas ATM withdrawals or purchases due to the Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) process imposed by other banks on overseas transactions. You should reject currency conversions options and choose the local currency of the country you are in to avoid incurring additional fees/charges.

You can easily keep track of all your transactions performed by accessing Citi Mobile® UK App.

Payments and transfers to any Citibank account overseas via our Citibank Global Transfer (CGT) are fee-free. However, transfers to non-Citibank accounts overseas may incur a SWIFT fee per transaction, excluding any commission and handling charges by the Correspondent bank.

Foreign exchange conversion and card commission fees on the converted amount may apply. The transaction will be declined if you have insufficient funds in your Primary account. Partial withdrawal or purchase is not available.

You need to make sure that you open & top-up a foreign currency account in the currency you’re spending in to benefit from Citibank Global Wallet.
If you’re spending in the foreign currency that is not offered by Citibank Global Wallet service, you will be charged accordingly and foreign exchange charges/administrative fees may apply.

If prompted, always select to pay in the local currency of the country you’re spending in (e.g. Euro for France) to benefit from the Citibank Global Wallet feature.

For instance, you may be given a choice to select your preferred currency when making a payment on most online shopping websites. If prompted, select to pay in the local currency of the web retailer (e.g. if buying something on Amazon US, select to pay in US Dollar). The final currency that you will be charged in is usually shown during checkout.

Moreover, after you have linked your Citibank Debit Card to your Citibank Global Wallet, you may still be given an option for currency conversion during ATM cash withdrawals or POS transactions due to the Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) process imposed by other banks on overseas transactions. You should reject currency conversion options to avoid incurring additional fees/charges.

Your daily transaction limit is set at £15,000 or equivalent in foreign currency at the prevailing exchange rate on the day of the transaction.

Although Citibank Global Wallet is designed to help you avoid foreign exchange and card commission fees, certain overseas non-Citi ATM withdrawals may still be subjected to administrative fees by third-parties (e.g. acquiring bank or associations that own the overseas ATM) at their sole discretion. Please ensure that you are always aware of these additional third-party charges.

Certain overseas banks may give you the option to select an account type for your cash withdrawal. It is usually a choice between a ‘Current/checking account’ or a ‘Savings account’.

If prompted, select your ‘Checking/Current Account’ to ensure your foreign currency cash withdrawal is debited from your Citibank Global Wallet currency.

Due to specifics of the UK ATM network, you need to make sure that you have selected a GBP account as your Primary account post turning on Citibank Global Wallet, in order to withdraw cash from UK ATMs.
